The History

Sinn is a Frankfurt based German watchmaker. It was founded by Helmut Sinn in 1961. His principle was (and is) "The best possible watch for the best possible price."
Sinn produces many different watch models, and I won't talk about them in this blog. The easiest way of you want to know more about the brand is to go on their website .
The unique model this blog is about is the EZM-1. EZM stands for Einsatzzeitmesser, and Sinn also produced other Einsatzzeitmesser watches called EZM-2, EZM-3 and EZM-4. they were all designed for extreme situations. For exemple, the EZM1 was first made for a German law enforcement unit, the Zentrale Unterstützungseinheit Zoll (ZUZ). there has been another special version of the EZM-1 dedicated to a second German unit called ZTZ.
Among those, only very few came to the hands of collectors. those versions are extremely rare.
Sinn produced classic EZM-1 from the last 90s up to the end of 2004.
Until 2002, the dial beared a 3H red sign which was indicating the use of tritium on the dial in order to make it glow when there is no light. It was then replaced by luminova, and the dials had an Ar red sign. Indeed, the case of the EZM-1 is filled with Argon to prevent any water condensation in the watch.

In 2008, Sinn, announced the production of a special limited edition of the EZM-1. Each of the 250 watchs had its serial number engraved on its side.

to sum up :

  • ZUZ EZM-1 (22 watches)
  • ZTZ EZM-1 (10, but : 1 reported lost, and 3 had a special right-sided crown arrangement)
  • "3H" EZM-1 (produced until 2002)
  • "Ar" EZM-1 (produced until 2004)
  •  LE  EZM-1 (250 watches sold in 2008)
  • "A. Bathing Ape" EZM-1 (100, limited edition for a Japanese fashion brand)
